Patent proceedings are terminated under any of the following conditions:

  1. if the issue fee is not paid and the application is thus abandoned – however upon petition, if the issue fee is later accepted, the application is revived;
  2. if a patent application loses an interference as to all its claims;
  3. by a Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences’ decision; or
  4. if terminated by a federal court.
