An Omnibus claim is an improper, overly broad claim. An example may be if an application includes the phrase “a device substantially as shown and described”. Omnibus claims are rejected per 35 USC 112 for being so broad they are deemed indefinite since they fail to identify the claimed invention. Omnibus claims are sometimes used in provisional applications because provisional applications are not examined.
