Patent examiners are employees of a nation’s patent and trademark office who review patent applications to determine if they comply with patent laws and regulations.
An examiner determines a patent’s validity, in part, by searching for prior art found in patents and in scientific literature, focusing on such factors as novelty, “inventive step”, “non-obviousness”, “industrial application” (utility) or “sufficiency of disclosure”.
