Continuation-in-Part (CIP) Application

A “continuation-in-part” application is filed during the lifetime of an earlier non-provisional application. It repeats all or a substantial portion of said non-provisional application, and adds matter not earlier disclosed [In re Klein, 1930 C.D. 2, 393 O.G. 519 (Comm’r Pat. 1930)]. This application can only be filed under 37 CFR §1.53(b) and must claim the benefit of the prior non-provisional application per 35 USC 120 or 365(c).
