An oath is defined as any type of attestation wherein an individual is bound in conscience to truthfully and faithfully perform a particular act. It is a solemn declaration of truth or obligation. The filed documents in the Patent and Trademark Office required to be under oath may also be subscribed to by a written declaration, said declaration to be in lieu of the oath otherwise required. Whenever a written declaration is used the document must warn the declarant that willful false statements and the like are punishable by a fine, imprisonment, or both.
